Judges Gayletha Nichols, Joshua Major, and Patricia Wise chose mezzo soprano Emily Fons from the Wisconsin District as the Upper Midwest Region Auditions winner at the Ordway Center in St. Paul, MN. Emily's Prize of $5,000 was donated by the Twin Cities Opera Guild, the Boss Foundation, and Frank and Lynda Sharbrough in memory of Helmut Friedlaender. She will also receive the Mrs. Edgar Tobin Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council and an all-expense-paid trip to New York City to compete in the National Auditions Semi-Finals on March 7, and possibly the Grand Finals on March 14.
Jesse Enderle, 2008 & 2009 Wisconsin District Winner, received an Encouragement Award.
James Kryshak, 2008 Wisconsin District Winner and National Semi-Finalist, received 2nd Place.
